What we like more than anything here at Daytrotter is live music, when BO-smelling bands are working for their meals and we’re allowed to escape in that formerly (clean air bills are good things) smokey room. Almost every band plays out, getting up there in front of people, but a rare percentage of them actually do it well, to the point where an audience is exhausted at the tail end of it too, when everyone needs a breather. This is where Dead Confederate and Apollo Sunshine come into the conversation. Both of these bands will light you up. The first time that I saw Apollo Sunshine play was in 2004, as a World Series game involving their beloved Boston Red Sox was playing on a television set in front of them. The show was in a lobby area at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., and they were warming the room for The Decemberists. They had their Christmas lights draped over and around every piece of equipment they owned and even with being royally preoccupied with the score of the game, they put on one of the most electrifying live sets I’ve ever seen. Dead Confederate bring that same kind of unbridled passion to the stage and it’s the essence of what we try to capture in amber every day here at the Daytrotter studio. We’re pleased as punch to make it easier on these two great bands getting out to the grand peoples of the USA. More than ever, in these strapped times of volatile financial markets and pumpkin pie season, we need Dead Confederate and Apollo Sunshine to be doing what they do best in the heat of these nights. We hope you enjoy this tour. Your attendance is required. Here’s where to be:
11/14 – Los Angeles, CA – Spaceland
11/15 – VIsalia, CA – The Cellar Door
11/16 – San Francisco, CA – The Independent
11/18 – Portland, OR – Doug Fir Lounge
